Sororities are private organizations who determine their own selection criteria. The National Panhellenic Conference is a group of the 26 national sororities. The NPC Mission Statement is: The National Panhellenic Conference supports its women's fraternities by promoting values, education, leadership, friendships, cooperation, and citizenship. NPC was founded in 1902 and is one of the oldest and largest women's membership organizations. They represent more than 4 million women at 655 college/university campuses and 4,500 local alumnae chapters in the United States and Canada. Together these groups donate more than $5 million to philanthropic organizations, provide $2.8 million in scholarships, and volunteer over 500,000 hours to their communities. What is a Sorority? A sorority is a group of women bound together by common principles, goals and experiences. Sororities offer a personal and professional support within a smaller group of friends in the larger university environment. This smaller support group allows you to foster and expand your personal and leadership development through training and volunteer work. Sororities also provide avenues to participate in volunteer work to your university community, city, and other groups. This begins a life-long commitment to and skills for philanthropy.
